Membrane of Insecurity

Published:

Description

Not a cheerful one this time, but one i think many women will relate to, and many men empathize with, along with having their own versions of bullshit, insecurity-driven, consumer product-placement.

Here are the words that i wrote out in the order i wanted them to be read - but i just kept adding above and below the top and lower phrases respectively as new ones came to mind ...

(but feel free to read them in your own order - they come in pairs, so one will be related to the one after it, or before it)

Inside the Membrane:

"Not thin enough?
Not [enough curves]? (i forgot to write it how i wanted to)

Ass too big?
Not 'hip-y' enough?

Breasts too small?
Heavy breasts hurting your back?

Do you have B.O.?
Do you not have enough scent?

Do you [have to] cross your legs when you laugh [in public]?
Do you suffer from vaginal itch?

Heavy flow?
Are your periods irregular?

Lose that baby-fat!
Our make-up will hide those ridges and valleys!

Too hairy?
Try our "Natural" line!

Don't you wish you were your boyfriend's fantasy?
Don't you wish you were someone else?

We only care for your well-being!
In twelve easy payments of $19.95!

----------------------------------------------------
(crappy attempt at typing the membrane)
----------------------------------------------------

Outside the Membrane

Love yourself!

When your natural beauty shines within,
It will shine without!

All is Love!

Ignore the bullshit!!!
Break the Membrane!!"

*takes a bow* Sorry, i'm just kinda proud of this one.
The woman was also drawn from a photo online. In the original photo, the small bit of her mouth that you do see is smirking, and she's just covering her face for anonymity (i wonder which generation of kids will find the idea of their parents having posted nude, sometimes pornographic images of themselves online, where everyone can see, will acknowledge it to be just the norm, old news... ), and she didn't have all that armpit hair or pubic hair (i just like it, so i add it) but i thought the pose was so tragically beautiful, and all these things started popping into my head.

All these things - all the advertising questions, designed by corporate predators to make you worry, and question yourself and your appearance enough to make you want to do something about it, to distract you from concentrating on being an intelligent, varied and individual person - just flooded into my head and i knew i had to put them all somewhere.
Kinda like George Carlin's long monologues, composed of nothing other than popular catch-phrases and slogans and cliches (i hesitate to compare myself to his genius, but he opened a poetic nerve in me)

Then i felt i needed to make sure the messages of truth are accessible to her, they're not all blocked completely by the bullshit (was gonna call it "The Bullshit Membrane" but it didn't quite convey the title as i wanted - other titles include, "In Twelve Easy Payments," "The Membrane," "Break the Membrane), which made me think of the membrane of a cell, selectively deciding what chemicals and molecules enter and exit the body of the cell. All she has to do is break through this Bullshit Membrane of Insecurity to achieve true self-worth, true beauty - to realize everything else is illusion, love is the only truth (thanks, David Icke!).

So yah. And she's not even a "big" big girl, which makes her perfect for this theme, because between thin girls and big bouncey babes, sometimes the girls in the middle get left in limbo - the ones that aren't thin enough to be called thin affectionately, nor fat enough to be called fat affectionately.

The chubby middle-child syndrome. All women, thin, chubby and fat need, and deserve love, and to be lusted after, and to be desired, and to be intellectually stimulated, and emotionally attended-to.

Men, too!

Again, as soon as i get a scanner i'll make sure i have a better image of this!
It's a damn shame i have to "mature" this one, because it's a message that girls of ALL ages need to take to heart.

This is an amazing piece. The shadows, the lighting; it all gives it a dark appearance. Being 'within' the membrane is the norm for women, and you've expressed how much they bombard us with on a daily basis. The fact that your membrane looks like it is closing around her shows the effect (her looking ashamed) that it can have on women in general.

She is plump and beautiful and natural, which most people would find offensive; anyone who is natural, they try to change. The hairy appearance makes it all the more dramatic.

The vision is very good; I give it five stars for being very well done, very well drawn. The message is very strong and slightly empowering, and the bombardment of all the issues that women nowadays are being filled with is very apparent.
