I would have placed this under "Fan Art", but what do i choose, games or movies or cartoons?
But yah, haven't you noticed over the last few years the striking resemblance of character between Mario and Mickey Mouse? It seems with every new game Mario's voice goes up one more pitch, often reminding me of Mickey Mouse in situations similar to those of when he climbed the Beanstock with Goofy and Donald Duck (if any of you younger folk have even seen those classic "Silly Symphonies" - when disney still had imagination, instead of trying to emulate common sitcoms *coughGoofTroopcough* - Only Ducktales was ever worth watching ... and sometimes Rescue Rangers... but i digress).
They both sorta wear big red overalls with buttons (if you stick to Donkey Kong's Mario's colours), though mickey's don't seem to have the straps.
I don't know, maybe the similarities end there, but there's no doubt they are probably the 2 most popular (or at least most well-known) company mascots in the whole world right now, and they seem to be morphing into each other - as Mickey's face becomes more human in the newer shorts (as in short films), and Mario's face becomes more mouse-like in Paper Mario, and his voice pitch rising in each new 3D console game.
Originally i was just going to draw Mario, but then i thought, "I should at least add Yoshi ... but Luigi also needs to be in there as Goofy, no question about it ... oh, and i suppose Princess Toadstool should also be in there as Minnie - however the hell i'm gonna pull that one off!" (I still am not sure about her, i kinda like her, but i feel like i coulda done better) And then i thought, "Donald Duck is the only person who could play Bowser. Good, old-fashioned, short-tempered, abusive Donald Duck, with his Koopa Kids, Huey, Louie, Dewey, Lemmy, Larry, Iggy, Wendy, Roy O., Ludwig Von, and Morton, Jr..... only, i'll leave them out."
As you can see, i couldn't really figure out how to draw him, but that's who's supposed to be silouetting in the moon - Donald Koopa. I suppose the steamboat guy, or the guy who played the Ghost of Christmas Future (who i think are the same guy) would have been a physically more fitting Bowser - but he's not as familiarly a violent character as Donald. You know what i mean?
And then i also wanted to add some small characters. I couldn't think of a small, evil character to be merged with the Bob-Omb, and couldn't really think of any other iconic small character that would fit well with being a Bob-Omb that every disney fan at least knows of, or was used already as another merging *coughStarTinkcough* (anybody got better suggestions?).
Anyway, i just re-bought myself Mario Galaxy (long story), and was playing this and yah - the whole Mickey Mouse thing with his voice just drove me to draw what you see here, and blather on with a novel's worth of artist's drivel...
Anyhoo - does anybody else see these similarities?
Normally I don't like crossovers, but wow, man! This is classically weird.
