Saw Ghost of Girlfriends Past last night - started off slow, your typical predictable boring romantic comedy, was funny to see Breckan Myer (forgive my spelling of his name if it's wrong), one of the co-creators/writers/voices of Robot Chicken, and good to see he can actually act. Then it sorta got more interesting. Was kinda funny, but yah, still a little typical romantic comedy-ish.

Also finally watched the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie last night ... i have to say it was cute, though i think Ed Norton would have been a better Dave Seville (at least in looks). "Earl" (i forget his real name right now) has always annoyed me in some way i can't describe, even though i like him in "My Name is Earl", his characters in the Kevin Smith movies, though funny, have always annoyed me. Plus, you could really tell that he wished he could be anywhere but where he was when he was trying to do the famous, "AAALLLLVVVIIIIN!" call. I mean, couldn't he have put any sort of acting passion into that yell? It didn't even sound like how a person would call out for a lost dog or child, but it sounded exactly like someone trying to imitate the original "ALVIN!" but is uncomfortable with acting, and just doesn't put themselves into it enough to make it sound convincing. Whether that was the fault of the actor or the producers, i don't know. Maybe he wanted to holler at the top of his lungs and the big boys were like, "No! That might sound angry, kids aren't allowed to experience someone else being angry at other kids, and you gotta make it sound just like the old Dave, even though we've ruined all the music and made the chipmunks look like stupid asshole homie-g wannabes on the cover!"
Even the original Dave "Alvin" yell had a realistic passion behind it.

But man, they sure know how to RUIN all the good chipmunk songs by R&B'ing them up. Goddamn, leave those songs alone, as they WERE! We don't want to imagine the backstreet boys' voices higher-pitched, but that's what we get...

Not to mention seeing the trailor in a theatre (watching "Ghosts...") of the new version of "Fame". I mean, i never was attracted to the idea of a show about a dancing school, but we have to admit, the theme song was all kinds of Epic. It inspired feeling, it had a really good energy and passion to it ... so what do they do?

Ruin the fuck out of it, by R&B'ing it up, too!

What's happened that this fake R&B and rap bullshit is the default chosen genre for most TV shows, movies and kids shows over REAL MUSIC?!?!?
Ever notice how soulless and uncreative "soul music" is? Why is it everywhere?!?!

The new "Fame" song sounds like every single song ever released by Beyonce and the pussyslut whores, and every other female R&B singer of the 2000's who sounds exactly like each other without any diversity in their sound even between their own songs, instead of the passion-inspiring, emotionally melodic, epic theme song of that 70s or 80s tv show that would come on in re-runs the mid-afternoon after some show i'd finished watching or something, hah.

Arrrgh.

This whole "fake-before-real" culture is really getting out of hand and pissing me off completely. Everything from music to religion - it's all about making sure the fake, worthless ideals survive, because the real ideals that actually matter would require us to think about things other than those we're told to think about.

Support the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by buying me a pizza.

I remember the David Bowie Playboy interview where he decried his own R&B album as "plastic soul" and laughed at the fact that anyone would actually call it an R&B album. When asked what would've happened if, ten years before, someone would have told him that it would eventually be HIS album, he responded, "I'd throw them, and the album, out of my house."

I find that ironic because if he thought that was bad, he had no idea what was to come with the inevitable deluge of Beyonce "Let's see if we can be derogatory to both men and women in the same song" Knowles and Rihanna, who I can't really tell apart from Beyonce. Bowie's album was still a hell of a lot more soulful and deep than half the shit that comes out today, and yet it was still a letdown. The sad part is that R&B is a real and respectable genre, and somewhere, way the hell out there, it's still alive. Unfortunately, I don't know where that is.

"But man, they sure know how to RUIN all the good chipmunk songs by R&B'ing them up. "

I have children, and I won't let them watch crap like this. Any show that tries too hard to "relate" and "be cool" makes me want to vomit. I remember the old cartoons and they were funny just because they stayed true to the characters and relied on old fashioned funny material. Remember Mighty Mouse? Animaniancs? They were original.

I hate it when characters act "gangsta." It's lame and not a lifestyle I would EVER find worth immitating, EVEN to be funny. I could rant for hours about the crap that pollutes our TV and is passed off to our kids. No wonder kids nowadays are so irritating.

No course is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it.

I know what you mean. When I watch a movie now all the songs are R&B'd and it makes it hard to enjoy them.

Death to mind pollution indeed. And I like that you called it "fake-before-real," that's a great way of putting it.

The whole time I was watching Alvin and the Chipmunks, the big problem I had is that I kept seeing "Earl", not the actor or Dave. I mean, yeah, I recognize alot of actors in movies, but I still see the character they are currently acting before I see their other characters.

Word of the day: Lazy
Used in a sentence:
"I am too lazy to make an actual word of the day"

Why is it soulless? Because it's corporate commercialized bullshit.

For another example, watch the movie Hype! It's how early 90's alternative became an all-consuming capitalistic trend.

It's not the R&B that makes it crap, it's the fact that it is "music" made for the purpose of making money, not for the purpose of making art.

Perhaps the "fake before real" culture is really just CAPITALISM ruining things that should be pure. I would say death to capitalism....but I honestly don't care. i see these things just as part of the culture at this date in earth-time, and I want to understand why and how it came to be this way. Not better or worse, just is.

ha ha sorry for the tangent.
